Bondurant Freedom Rock
315 2nd St NW, Bondurant, IA

The Bondurant Freedom Rock created by the artist Ray “Bubba” Sorensen, aims to spread the message of thanking our Veterans for all 99 counties in the state of Iowa.  Iowa Remembers joined with the American Legion Post 396 in bringing the Polk County Freedom Rock to Bondurant, Iowa (which is the location of Iowa Remembers, Inc.).

The theme for our Polk County Freedom Rock is “Honoring Iowa’s Fallen”. The front side of the rock features a battle cross along with service members from different eras carrying a flag-draped casket to signify those lost throughout our country’s history. The backside of the rock resembles the Iowa flag and includes a ribbon with all five branches of the military. This is the first time Bubba has incorporated the Iowa flag into a Freedom Rock. He has captured perfectly the vision we have at Iowa Remembers by honoring and remembering Iowans from all branches of the service especially our fallen heroes. Always Remember … Never Forget.

Bondurant Regional Trailhead -
The Depot

2 Main St. SE, Bondurant, Iowa 50035

The Bondurant Regional Trailhead is a centerpiece of the Eastern Polk County trail system and Chichaqua Valley Trail. Established in 2013, the 0.7-acre trailhead park features a 1,440 square foot open-air shelter with restrooms and water bottle fill stations. This shelter is a replica of the original Bondurant train station that served train passengers from 1883 to 1962. The Trailhead sits on the historic Chicago Great Western rail line. The railway operated from 1883 to 2005. The trailhead rail bed right-of-away was purchased by the City of Bondurant from Bondurant Co-Op in 2011 to create a trailhead park to honor Bondurant’s railroad history.
